Road Trip #1: Roanoke, Virginia

Roanoke, otherwise known as “Star City”, got it’s name for the 88-foot-high Mill Mountain Star, shining since 1949. Don’t stop your journey at that sight, though. Roanoke offers amazing food and art galleries, such as the Taubman Museum and other spectacular old time exhibits.

ROAD TRIP #2: Eastern Shore of Virginia

As you drive across Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, you’ll definitely start to feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The Eastern Shore of Virginia is famously known for its antique farmhouses, retro restaurants and roadside markets. Since you’re already there, be sure to check out Cape Charles to watch a breathtaking sunset.

ROAD TRIP #3: Farmville & The High Bridge

In Farmville you’ll find the High Bridge Trail State Park, which follows a former railroad line. This park is full of beautiful short hikes. But make sure you stop and see the actual High Bridge. It is almost a half-mile long, and it overlooks a spectacular private valley in the Appomattox River.

ROAD TRIP #4: Charlottesville, VIRGINIA

Charlottesville is a place where you’ll want to book a night. Home to many amazing wineries, you undoubtedly want to indulge in a fantastic selection of food and wine. The next morning you can travel to the outskirts of town and visit Monticello, the legendary home of president Thomas Jefferson. Once you are done there, you can either visit the home campus of the University of Virginia or stop for another night and soak up the last of the summer nights.

ROAD TRIP #5: Lake Anna, VIRGINIA

Open since 1983, you can try your hand at panning for gold, cuddle up in a cabin, or you can go fishing all day long. Your options are endless! This destination is summer favorite in Virginia, and attracts over 250,000 people a year – so try to visit during the week if you aren’t a fan of crowds. In addition, Lake Anna also has a sandy beach open in the summer that is equipped with lifeguards.

ROAD TRIP #6: Outer Banks of North Carolina

If you want to see an abundance of lighthouses, you need to visit the shoreline of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Famous for its fishing and picturesque views, the Outer Banks of North Carolina is the perfect weekend road trip.
