Springtime Auto Glass Repair

Springtime brings flowers, bird song, warmer temperatures, and longer days. Chances are that unless you have allergies, you probably love spring. And even if you have allergies, spring is pretty great because it means summer’s right around the bend.

Part of warmer temperatures and longer days means that there’s a lot more water, sand, and rocks on the road as snow melts and rainfall increases. Most places have street sweeping requirements because keeping the roads and water drainage routes clear is a matter of public safety, but it will often take several months before state and municipal crews finish sweeping the roads.

The importance of early chip fixes

It’s in this seasonal in-between time that your vehicle is in higher risk of windshield chips, cracks, and other damage. Rocks and other debris on the road which haven’t been cleared are likely to be picked up by the tires of vehicles in front of you on the road, and it’s not uncommon to see a lot of chips this time of year.

Small chips in your windshield are easy to repair, but can turn into long cracks as your vehicle warms and cools between day and night, or as weather changes. Once a chip has turned into a crack, the type of repair required and the cost of repair can grow exponentially. Something which is a dime-sized chip one day can turn into replacing your entire windshield the next. For this reason, it’s important to take care of chips early.

Depending on the degree of damage your windshield has sustained over the winter and into spring, it may not be able to be repaired. To read more about your options for repair vs replacement, click here.
